About the project

LoveFrom designed more than 6,000 paper objects for the finale of Vogue World: Milano, released from the dome of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Named libellula, Italian for dragonfly, each was folded by hand from one sheet of paper without glue.

The design draws on dragonflies, sycamore seeds, Milanese lace and Venetian mosaics. Developed over several months, the objects were intended to move through the space rather than simply fall, connecting the height of the glass roof with the audience below.

Prototypes were tested in an aircraft hangar and in the Galleria. The team also used OpenAI’s Codex to build a simulation of the venue and explore the effect of different object sizes and densities.

Guests could take a libellula home as a keepsake. Printed text records the occasion and location alongside “Designed with love in San Francisco.” Vogue reported that any remaining objects would be recycled.
