About the project

William Stout Architectural Books has been part of San Francisco’s design community since 1974. LoveFrom, a neighbour in Jackson Square, developed a visual identity in collaboration with the Eames Institute, which owns the shop.

The existing enamel shop sign became a point of departure for LF Washington, a custom geometric sans-serif. The system spans the logotype, stationery, bookmarks and other printed material, giving the shop a consistent voice while keeping its idiosyncratic character.

Illustrations by Satoshi Hashimoto bring the founder and storefront into the identity. The related website was developed with Chips. This is a useful example of LoveFrom’s work at the scale of everyday neighbourhood culture: a bookmark, a business card and the sign above a familiar door.
