The (RED) Diamond Ring
A ring cut from a single diamond, designed by Ive and Newson before LoveFrom and completed in its founding year.
About the project
Jony Ive and Marc Newson designed an all-diamond ring for the 2018 (RED) charity auction. Diamond Foundry manufactured the bespoke piece after the sale; the completed object was published in 2019. Its chronology places it at the edge of the LoveFrom story, rather than among the collective’s later commissions.
The design removes the usual distinction between a gemstone and the metal that holds it. Both the band and its faceted surfaces are formed from a single laboratory-grown diamond. The ring was produced for its buyer from a 45-carat rough stone.
The photographs of the finished ring and the original design render are presented separately here. The project appears in Dezeen’s March 2026 post-Apple roundup, which also acknowledges that Ive and Newson developed it before leaving Apple.
Included for historical context. This is a 2018 Ive–Newson design completed in 2019, not a commission originally credited to LoveFrom.
