Sailing Lantern

About the project

LoveFrom and Japanese manufacturer Balmuda developed a portable LED lantern inspired by the forms and purpose of traditional sailing lights. Announced in September 2025, the project was produced as a limited edition of 1,000.

The polished stainless-steel body surrounds a warm light source, with a gold-coloured lens guard and carefully resolved mechanical details. A handle makes the object portable, while the substantial lens and protective framework give it the presence of a small piece of marine equipment.

Balmuda describes maintenance, disassembly and repair as part of the design, with recycling considered at the end of its life. The Japanese launch announcement placed shipments in March 2026. The collaboration extends LoveFrom’s attention to tactility into an object used in changing light, both indoors and outside.
